On February 6, 2024, we had the pleasure of hosting a day of training and networking organized in partnership with Schmersal, a global leader in Industrial Safety technology. An event both formative and informative, focused on important Industry Regulations.
Machine Regulation (EU) 2023/1230: State of the Art and New Features Introduced
Opening the event was engineer Paolo De Benedetto, Safety Consultant for the tec.nicum Schmersal Group, who presented an overview of the new Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230. De Benedetto emphasized the importance of adapting regulations to the challenges of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics. He also discussed new documentation requirements and the responsibilities of economic operators, highlighting benefits in terms of Safety and various legal implications.
EN ISO 14120: Design and Construction of Fixed and Mobile Guards
Gabriele Mastrandrea, Product Development Specialist at Satech, led a discussion on the EN ISO 14120 Standard, a key reference in the design of Fixed and Mobile Guards for Machine Safety. Gabriele mentioned visibility, ergonomics, noise reduction, and material resistance as the main requirements outlined in the Standard. Finally, he emphasized the importance of an integrated approach with other Safety Standards for the prevention of mechanical risks and operator protection, including the EN ISO 13857 Standard.
EN ISO 12100: Safety Requirements in Risk Assessment
De Benedetto took the floor again for the closing speech on UNI EN ISO 12100 - a type A Standard related to machinery safety, design principles, and the evaluation and reduction of risks - enhancing its integrated application with the following industry Standards:
- Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, referring to the importance of CE marking for Robotic Systems;
- EN ISO 10218-1/2; ISO/TR20218-1; ISO/TR20218-2 reviewing methods and processes for conducting a correct Risk Assessment and presenting the main Safety Requirements and protective measures, both hardware and software;
- EN ISO 14119 related to the design principles and selection of Interlocking Devices associated with Industrial Guards.
Conviviality and Networking
There were also convivial moments of sharing, where participants had the opportunity to get to know each other, discuss workshop topics, and lay the groundwork for future business collaborations. A tour of our Smart Factory finally showcased the Industrial Safety measures applied to our automated lines, among the most advanced in Europe.
The topics covered by the speakers enriched the technical-regulatory knowledge of all attendees, emphasizing the importance of a holistic approach to Industrial Safety. Every Satech event is a unique opportunity to share experience and build relationships, preparing for the challenges of the near future.
